Chance to find out about Hallaton Treasure
Posted on 23/05/09
Community Services
The Hallaton Treasure of over 5000 Iron Age and Roman coins was one of the most exciting archaeological finds ever made in Leicestershire. A day conference at the University of Leicester will give everyone the chance to find out more about this exciting find.
The conference, organised by Leicestershire County council and the Leicestershire Museums Archaeological Fieldwork Group, is on Saturday June 27th. It features speakers from the University of Leicester, the British Museum and Leicestershire County Council who will describe the site and finds, explain its context and the significance of the coins to the history of the East Midlands and put the site into the context of continuing discoveries around the County and City. Plans for the exhibition of the finds at Market Harborough Museum opening in the autumn will also be described.
Peter Liddle, Community Archaeologist for Leicestershire Museums Service, who is helping to organise the conference said "This will be an excellent day to catch up with the latest thinking on the Hallaton Treasure and recent discoveries in the city and the county. We have some excellent speakers and I am looking forward to it.
Iron Age Leicestershire and the Hallaton Treasure is on Saturday 27th June 2009 from 10.00am to 4pm in the Rattray Lecture Theatre at the University of Leicester. The conference costs 10 per person. Tickets from Admin Team, Room 500, County Hall, Glenfield, Leics, LE3 8TE (cheques payable to Leics County Council).
For further information about the festival contact Peter Liddle, Community Archaeologist on (0116) 3058326 or pliddle@leics.gov.uk
