An attempt to stage the world’s biggest picnic is among the events to mark National Family Week in Leicestershire this month (May).
Between 25th and 31st May 2009, the county of Leicestershire will host a series of events to welcome the first National Family Week, a new nationwide initiative, to celebrate and promote good family life and to help the UK adopt a more family-friendly culture.
During the week, many fun activities and events will be run by local community groups, shopping centres, local authorities, charities and companies. Leicestershire County Council will also be running a host of events in schools, museums, libraries and country parks.
Snibston will be joining in a national attempt to help stage the world’s largest simultaneous picnic. This will involve joining Rangers at Snibston Country Park for a picnic on Monday 25th May from 12 noon.
“Everyone is welcome to come as long as they each bring two courses of food and a comfy rug to sit on!” said Kate Hall, Marketing Officer for Snibston.
Visit www.snibston.com/picnic to find out more about how you can get involved.
This is just one of many other events taking place in Leicestershire to mark National Family Week.
For further information on events happening in Leicestershire, see information below, visit www.leics.gov.uk/events or pick up an Events Guide from county libraries and museums.
The aim of the event is to encourage families and organisations to get together to underline the importance and value of family life.
Local organisations in Leicestershire can use the week to showcase their work - how they support families, offer activities and services for families, develop family-friendly policies, or engage in other ways in the promotion of family life.
The National Family Week also has cross-party political support with Gordon Brown and David Cameron endorsing the week and pledging to celebrate with their families, along with celebrities such as Antony Worrall-Thompson and the Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington from Nottinghamshire.
