Police in the city are appealing for witnesses after an 18-year-old man was robbed in Uppingham Road.

The incident happened at around 10.40pm on Monday May 25, bank holiday Monday, near to the health centre, when the victim was approached by four youths.

The youths threatened the victim with what he believed to be a knife and a screwdriver and demanded he hand over his property.

The youths searched the victim and took his black Motorola V220 mobile phone, a black and silver Mp3 player and his wallet, which contained a small amount of cash.

The youths then made off in different directions after a vehicle driving along the road stopped and approached them.

This robbery follows from an earlier incident where the same group of youths asked the victim for a cigarette near to Coleman Road.

The youth that was carrying the knife is described as black, aged between 15 to 16-years-old, about 59 tall and of a slim build. He was wearing a black hooded top with the hood up and a black scarf around his nose and mouth.

The three other youths are all described as white.

Detective Constable Ros Coulton, the officer investigating the incident, said: The victim has been left shaken by this incident but thankfully was not hurt.

If you was in the area at the time on bank holiday Monday and can remember seeing a group of youths or where they ran to then we would like to hear from you.

There were a number of people in the area at the time of the incident that stopped to help the victim and we would like to thank them for this, but we would like to appeal to anyone else who was aware of the robbery that could help us with our investigation.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact DC 4110 Ros Coulton on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officer's identification number 4110. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous on 0800 555 111.

* Please note, some mobile phone service providers may charge for this call.
