newsdesk
Loughborough MP Andy Reed is making available promotional materials in respect of the national Carers Week, taking place from 8 14 June.
In the United Kingdom there are a total of six million carers and the purpose of the campaign next week is to highlight the work undertaken by carers and promote various initiatives to support those who provide unpaid care for a loved one who is ill, frail or disabled.
Reed stated I know from first hand experience what an invaluable job carers do, and Im making available special leaflets and guides in my Constituency Office which are available for any Loughborough constituent to collect. He added I do feel passionately about this issue through personal experience of 24/7 family care.
To obtain more information contact Andy Reeds Constituency Office on 01509 261226, or call in at 21 Fennel Street, Loughborough
In addition to the national initiative Reed is also supporting locally the estimated 15,320 carers in Charnwood area. Charnwood Carers Service is run by the Well-being team at Voluntary Action Charnwood, based at John Storer House in Loughborough. The service provides:
information about support groups, carers assessments, respite care, transport, benefits and grants,
co-ordinates local forms giving carers and service providers in Charnwood the chance to meet and discuss issues important to carers, and
a quarterly newsletter covering local and national carers issues.
Charnwood carers are holding a week of events and trips to highlight the work of carers throughout Charnwood starting with a Carers Cuppa at John Storer House on Monday 8th June from 10am 12 noon.
They are also running trips to the Pepul Centre in Belgrave, Leicester on Wednesday 10th June, cost 5, to Skegness on Friday 12th June, cost 9.50, and visiting Shepshed Watermill on Sunday 14th June no charge.
For further information about the service or any of the trips, please contact Nita Patel or Joanne Clarke, Carers Development Workers on 01509 631782 / 631783 or call into John Storer House Monday Thursday 9am 4pm.
