To coincide with the Anne Frank [ + you} exhibition showing at Snibston Discovery Museum, The Anne Frank Awards is looking for nominations for 2009. It is a highly regarded education and recognition programme aimed at celebrating actions that echo the spirit of Anne Frank.
Do you know someone who has made a difference?
If you do know someone whose respect, principles and sense of responsibility have changed lives for the better, Snibston Discovery museum and the Anne Frank Trust would like to know about them.
The Awards, given in two categories - Young People and Educators - recognise people who have shown great personal strength, moral courage, and determination to stand up for what is right - above all those who have made a positive difference to the lives of others.
So, to find out more or if YOU know a young person, youth group or educator who has made a really positive difference to other peoples' lives, you should nominate them for an Anne Frank Award. Head to www.annefrankawards.org.uk and NOMINATE now! By celebrating the positive, inspiring actions of ordinary people we can work to create a more cohesive, constructive society.
Award winners will come together for a ceremony and reception in central London in the summer of 2009.
Notes to editor
The new free teaching resource, How Great Can You Be?, to be launched very soon, is designed for the brand new Citizenship curriculum at Key Stages 3 and 4 and will be downloadable from the dedicated awards website.
The Anne Frank Awards originally established in 2003 by The Anne Frank Trust UK, the sister organisation of the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam, is a highly regarded education and recognition programme that seeks to recognise young people and educators who have shown great personal strength, moral courage, and determination to stand up for what is right. We seek to acknowledge and celebrate people who not only believe in Anne Frank’s inspirational words “it only takes a moment to start to improve the world”, but who also put them into action. With so much adverse publicity about gun and knife crimes and teenage violence, we are looking for the often unsung heroes who are working towards a better future, trying to change attitudes and challenge prejudice and racism. We believe that those who speak out, go out of their way for others, and stick out their necks for the common good should be identified and held up as an example to us all.
Those who have really made a difference to others around them. Those who share the spirit that Anne demonstrated and the values she believed in. Those who in a moment or moments of true inspiration, kindness and compassion literally acted ‘Frankly’.
If you believe a young person or educator that you know has acted ‘Frankly’ and made a notable difference to other people’s lives, you should nominate them for an Anne Frank Award. We also accept nominations for groups of young people who have acted together to do something that has made a real difference to their school, community or society in general.
