Officers are appealing for information after a 14-year-old boy was assaulted and robbed on Western Park.

The incident happened at around 12.55pm on Sunday May 31, 2009 as the victim was sitting on a bollard near the railway line off Oswin Road, waiting for his girlfriend.

He was suddenly approached by a group of five youths on bikes and one of them asked him for some cigarette papers.

The victim replied that he did not have any and the group left. A few minutes later, they came back and asked the victim for his phone. He handed it over before he was punched in the face.

The group left and returned twice more, assaulting the victim, before searching his pockets for money. Nothing further was stolen.

During the incidents the boy sustained cuts and bruises to his face and scratches and grazes to his arms and back.

Three of the suspects have been described as white and aged between 15 and 17-years-old.

The first is described as around 5’9” tall, of slim to medium build with light brown hair.

The second is described as around 5’7” tall, of medium build with light brown hair. He was also described as having a lazy left eye and was wearing blue three-quarter length tracksuit bottoms but wasn’t wearing a top.

The third is described as around 5’11” tall and of slim build. He was wearing a dark coloured football shirt and baseball cap.

PC Ben Dunkley, who is investigating this incident, said: “The victim was attacked on three separate occasions by this group. He was reluctant to leave the park as he had arranged to meet his girlfriend and feared for her safety if she turned up on her own.

“A group of around six or seven girls and one boy came to the assistance of the victim during one of the incidents. I would appeal for any of these people to contact me.

“I’m also keen to speak to a man on a bike who helped the victim by walking him off the park after he managed to get away.

“If you witnessed any of these incidents, saw anybody matching these descriptions in the area at the time or have any information about who may be responsible then please get in touch.”
