Council Leader's Visit to the Bell Foundary

Posted on 10/06/09

Cllr. Mike Preston (Conservative councillor for Queniborough) will be undertaking his first official visit in his new role as Leader of Charnwood Borough Council to Taylors Bell Foundry in Loughborough on Thursday 11 June.

Cllr. Preston will be given a personal tour of the foundry and then observe the Foundry Master casting a bell. He will also see the Great Pauls Mould before it moves into the Market Square in Loughborough.

The John Taylor Bell Foundry was built where it now stands in Freehold Street 150 years ago this year, although the John Taylor company was formed in 1784!

In 2005 John Taylors merged with the bell hanging company of Eayre & Smith to form Taylors, Eayre & Smith.

They are proud to continue to craft church bells, hand bells and other cast items in their foundry where products are manufactured as they always have been to the customers requirements.

Jill Clarke, Operations & Finance Director, said: I have been amazed since joining the Company a year ago, the level of expertise, care and passion that goes into making these wonderful bells for our customers. I know I speak for all my colleagues when I say, we look forward to welcoming the councillors this week

Cllr. Mike Preston (Conservative councillor for Queniborough) said: This is a great opportunity to look round such as old and distinguished company and meet talented craftsman keeping alive traditional skills in Charnwood.
