Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was robbed in Uppingham Road.

The incident happened on Tuesday, May 25 at around 2.20pm when the 24-year-old victim pulled over in her car near the junction with Overton Road to use her mobile phone.

The suspect opened the passenger door of the victim’s white Mazda 3 car and assaulted the her, before taking her handbag.

The victim ran after the suspect and the victim was assaulted again.

The victim did not require hospital treatment.

The suspect is described as Asian, between 18 and 21-years-old and of slim build. He wearing a black hooded top with the hood up and a grey hat on underneath.

Detective Constable Gary Johnson, who is investigating the incident said: “This incident has left the victim very shocked. We are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anything suspicious.

“Uppingham Road is a busy area with lots of people passing through. We would ask you to thin back. Were you in the area at the time? Did you see the incident take place? Did you see anything suspicious? Did you see someone making off from the scene?

“If so we want to hear from you as you could have information which will help with our enquiries.”
