Watch out for concert ticket cons

Leicestershire Trading Standards Service is urging music lovers to take sensible precautions when buying festival or concert tickets this summer to avoid losing out to ticket touts, scam websites and the practices of some ticket resale operators.

Trading Standards has issued the following advice:

  • Buy through the box office or primary ticket agents.
  • Check the face value of the tickets, any additional booking fees, transaction charges and postage.
  • Read the terms and conditions re ticket delivery dates, concert cancellation/ changed date or you have to cancel.
  • When booking online check that the payment pages are secure by looking for a padlock symbol or making sure the website address begins with 'https'. Print each page for your records.
  • If you are buying tickets costing over £100, consider using a credit card for additional protection.

David Bull, Head of Leicestershire County Council Trading Standards Service, said: “The volume of complaints received in previous years suggests that some areas of the ticket market haven’t been treating fans fairly. However, by taking precautions, consumers can reduce the risk of disappointment and financial loss."
