12 June 2009Birthday bus prizes announced

Winners of competitions and prizes celebrating the first birthday of the 27 bus service were announced this week.

The service, which celebrated its first birthday on 17th April, runs from Loughborough to Thurmaston via Walton on the Wolds, Barrow upon Soar, Seagrave, Sileby, Mountsorrel, Cossington and Syston, linking these Charnwood villages with nearby shops and services.

Its birthday celebrations took place from 20th April to 16th May 2009 during which time bus users could travel for just 50p on any single journey.

A Seagrave man won the top prize of 50 in High Street vouchers in a free prize draw which took place on 27th May. Other prizes included tickets to the Curve theatre, the National Space Centre and Conkers, as well as a stadium tour of Leicester City Football Club.

Ian Drummond, the County Councils assistant director for transportation, said: The 27 bus service is a very successful route with over 42,000 passengers using the service in its first year alone. It has been a popular way of travelling for people going to the retail park in Thurmaston and Loughborough town centre in particular.

"Public transport is a far more environmentally-friendly way to travel and can certainly take the hassle out of finding a parking space at busy retail outlets and town centre car parks.
