Police are seeking young peoples' help to shape their approach to youth crime in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.  From June 15 to July 17 people aged up to 18 are being asked to give police their views. The online survey is the first of its kind to be carried out in Leicestershire.

The Force’s lead on Youth Involvement, Sergeant Tom Moore said,

“Young people sometimes get a bad press. My experience of working with them over 24 years as a policeman is that is undeserved. The vast majority have the same hopes and fears as the rest of us. This project aims to establish young people’s concerns about crime and the extent of their involvement in it to inform and guide our response.”

Anyone aged under 18 can participate in the survey by going to www.thejitty.com or directly accessing it at www.leics.police.uk/surveys/youngpeople/. No personal identifying details are sought, all responses are anonymous.  The police do not wish to identify anyone participating, whatever the responses given.

Adults are also being surveyed and the results of the two studies will be compared. An adult version of the questionnaire can be completed on the Force’s website.

Either questionnaire will take less than 10 minutes to complete.

The project is sponsored by the County Youth Council, Leicestershire County Council and Leicestershire Constabulary.
