Bestseller science author addresses University of Leicester researchers

MBE honoured Emmy nominee, BAFTA winner, best-seller author, journalist, TV producer and particle physics scientist, Dr. Simon Singh is the keynote speaker at this years Festival of Postgraduate Research. At the University of Leicester.
Simon will share his experience of producing television documentaries focused on the communication of science at the Festival Award Ceremony, taking place in Ken Edwards Lecture Theatre 3, from 2:00 to 3:30 pm on Thursday 25th June.
The Festival of Postgraduate Research is a yearly event that introduces employers and the public to the next generation of innovators and cutting-edge researchers, and gives postgraduate researchers the opportunity to explain the real world implications of their research to a wide ranging audience.
His dynamic address will be led by interactions with the audience, as it is guided through the questions and comments he receives from the addressees. As an expert in the field, his lecture will highlight the importance of communicating science beyond the academic world.
About Simon Singh
Simon Singh is a science writer and broadcaster. Having completed his Ph.D. in particle physics at the University of Cambridge, he joined the BBC's science department in 1990. He was a producer and director on programmes such as Tomorrow's World, Horizon and Earth Story. His documentary about the world's most notorious mathematical problem was nominated for an Emmy and won a BAFTA.
In 1997 he wrote a book on the same subject, entitled Fermat's Last Theorem, which was the first mathematics book to become a No.1 bestseller in Britain. It has been translated into over 25 languages.
In 1999 Simon published The Code Book, a history of codes and codebreaking, which also became an international best-seller. In 2004 he published Big Bang, a history of cosmology that became a New York Times bestseller. His most recent book, co-authored with Professor Edzard Ernst, is Trick or Treatment? Alternative Medicine on Trial.
He presented The Science of Secrecy on Channel 4 and Mind Games on BBC4. His programmes on BBC Radio 4 include The Serendipity of Science, Five Particles and Five Numbers. In 2003 he received an MBE for services to science communication and education.

The Festival of Postgraduate Research exhibition is open from 11:00am to 1:00pm on Thursday 25th June. It is free to attend and open to the public.
