New cycle map available
Posted on 16/06/2009
Highways, Transportation & Waste Management
A new guide detailing cycleways and suggested routes for cyclists is being launched this week.
The new Hinckley and Bosworth cycle map contains details of cycle parking, cycle crossings, bike shops and steep gradients in addition to recommended cycle routes and off road cycle tracks.
Children from Burbage will help to launch the new map by testing out the route from their school to a local recreation ground.
The map has been produced by Leicestershire County Council, in partnership with Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council and CTC (Cyclists’ Touring Club).
Chairman of the County Council, Mr Tony Kershaw said, “This map will be a great asset to local residents, both for regular cyclists and those visiting the area, which we are delighted to launch during national ‘Bike Week’.
We hope that the map will also encourage local school children to get on their bikes – a healthier and greener alternative to arriving at school in the car.”
The map is available free of charge from libraries in the area, or by calling 0116 305 8160. A map to download is available at www.leics.gov.uk/hinckleycyclingmap.
Photo opportunity:
