Robbery at shop in the city
Police are appealing for witnesses after a robbery at a shop in Leicester.
The incident happened at Step In, in Ullswater Street at around 7.55pm yesterday (Thursday, June 18) when the two men entered the store and attempted to steal alcohol.
The 41-year-old victim, who works in the shop, was then assaulted by the suspects with a pole, which measure 3’ to 4’ in length.
The victim received minor injuries to his head and received hospital treatment at Leicester Royal Infirmary. Cash and cigarettes were stolen in the incident.
The two suspects are described as white, between 5’6” and 5’8” tall, of medium build. One was wearing a light coloured cap.
Detective Constable Joanna Brown, who is investigating the incident said: “We believe the suspects left the scene with the pole, which they took from the store.
“This would make them quite noticeable to anyone who was in the area. Did you see anyone matching these descriptions? Did you see anyone acting suspiciously? Maybe you saw which direction the suspects went in after they left the store?
“If so we would like to hear from you as you could have information which will help with our enquiry.”
Anyone with any information is asked to contact DC 4454 Joanna Brown on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officer's identification number 4454. Alternatively, you may contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous, on 0800 555 111.
