Officers in Loughborough are appealing for witnesses following the report of an assault on two women in Baxtergate.

The incident happened at around 4pm on Thursday June 18, when the two women, aged 24 and 19-years-old, were walking along Baxtergate and became involved in an altercation with a group of around six men.

The altercation became violent when one of the men threw a lighter at the younger of the two women.

Another man from the group then approached the 24-year-old woman and kneed her in the stomach.

Both women received minor injuries as a result of the incidents, but did not received medical treatment.

The group of men then ran off in the direction of McDonalds on High Street.

The man who threw the lighter is described as white, aged between 19 and 20-years-old, about 5’9”to 6ft tall, of a skinny build and had short brown hair. He was wearing a grey top and tracksuit bottoms and was holding a black, Staffordshire bull terrier that was on a lead.

The second man, who kneed the woman in the stomach, is described as white, around 16 to 19-years-old, of a slim build and had short brown hair. He was wearing a grey top and trousers and white trainers.

The rest of the men in the group are said to have been white and of dual-heritage appearance.

PC Richard Spivey, the officer investigating the incident, said: “Fortunately neither of the women were seriously hurt in the incident, but it has left them shaken and upset.

“We believe that there were a number of people in the area at the time of the incident and we would like these people to contact us with any information they have and help us with our investigation.

“Can you remember seeing a group of around six youths and men in the area? Did you see them prior to the incident or see where they went to after? Do you know who they are? Any information you have, no matter how insignificant it may seem, we want to hear it.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC 1384 Richard Spivey on 0116 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officer's identification number 1384.
