Help to be transformed for disabled children
Posted on 22/06/2009
Improving the lives of disabled children and their families is at the heart of a new project and people from across Leicestershire are being urged to get involved.
Many families each year receive support from the County Council ranging from holiday and weekend activities to overnight care.
This help supports parents and carers to live ordinary everyday lives and offers disabled children and young people positive personal and social development experiences.
The County Council is aiming to transform these services and is keen to hear families' views and find out what services they would like to see locally.
A questionnaire has been put together and parents and carers of disabled children are being urged to have their say. The survey has been developed in partnership with NHS Leicestershire County and Rutland.
Wendy Johnson, from near Hinckley, said: "As the mother of a disabled child, I believe it's really important for parents and carers to have the chance to give their views on the services that their children and families use now and want to see in the future.
"I find completing questionnaires time consuming but will definitely be filling this one in as it’s about issues that directly affect my child and family. I look forward to having further opportunities to make my opinions known and to hear back from the County Council about what is being done to improve services for my daughter and other disabled children.”
Ivan Ould, said: " This is a great opportunity for parents and carers in Leicestershire to provide their views on future service development for disabled children and their families."
Familes can find the questionnaire at: www.leics.gov.uk/aiming_high_for_disabled_children or can obtain a hard copy by calling InfoXchange on 0116 2232295. The consulation closes on Friday, 10th July.
The transformation of services is funded by the government's Aiming High stategy.
