New school building plans to be unveiled

Plans for a replacement primary school building are to be unveiled at a special open evening.

Parents and the public will have a chance to visit Glenfield Primary School between 5pm and 7pm on Wednesday, June 24 to view the proposals.

The new building will accommodate 345 pupils, 30 of which will attend a specialist Speech and Language provision.

This will enlarge the current Speech and Language provision at the school by the addition of 10 Key Stage One children to the present 20 Key Stage Two pupils.

The build will take place in the grounds of the current school in Stamford Street. It is anticipated that the school will continue to operate normally in its existing building while construction work is carried out.

The scheme includes making sure every class has access to the outdoors so children can take their learning outside the classroom setting whenever the curriculum allows.

Leicestershire County Council’s lead member for Children and Young People, Cllr Ivan Ould said: “This will be a great opportunity for people to come along and find out more about these exciting plans.

“We look forward to hearing what the parents of the children who attend the school, as well as the wider public, think about these proposals.

“The County Council has worked closely with the school in designing the scheme and will continue to be fully involved throughout the design and build process.”

Representatives from Leicestershire County Council, Synergy Architects and the developers Willmott Dixon will be available at the open evening to listen to comments and answer any questions.

The scheme is due to be submitted for planning in July and, if successful,  construction will begin during 2010.
