Shakespeare’s As You Like It swings into Bosworth as Heartbreak Productions bring their unique adaptation to the battlefield.
On Tuesday, 30th of June, as part of the Market Bosworth Festival, Heartbreak Productions bring their innovative version of one of Shakepeare’s most enduring comedies to Bosworth Battlefield. Set in the 1960s, this swinging production of As You Like It uses the iconography of the decade to create a unique and innovative take on the play.
A pastoral comedy, As You Like It includes one of Shakespeare’s most quoted lines: “all the world’s a stage” and the famous “seven ages of man”. Performed against the atmospheric background of the Ambion Parva arena, complete with replica medieval buildings and the historic Ambion Wood, the outdoor performance will entrance the whole family.
The open-air performance begins at 7.30pm, but gates open at 6pm. Tickets are available from Bosworth Battlefield by calling 01455 290 429. For tickets booked up to and including 24th June costs are: adult £11, concessions £8, family £30 (adults + two children under 16yrs).
For tickets booked after the 25th June costs are: adult £13, concessions £10, family £36. Visitors are advised to bring their own chairs and picnics are welcome. Refreshments will be served in the Tithe Barn Restaurant up to the end of the interval. For further information visit the website www.bosworthbattlefield.com or www.bosworthfestival.co.uk.
As you enjoy the production, soak up the atmosphere of the historical location. Bosworth Battlefield is the site of Henry Tudor’s famous victory over Richard III, the subject of a different Shakespeare play. Bosworth Battlefield boasts an award-winning exhibition, miles of battlefield trails throughout its country park and a medieval tithe barn which houses its restaurant. Along with open-air theatre, Bosworth plays host to a number of events, culminating in its Anniversary Re-enactment on the 22nd and 23rd of August, which includes a jousting tournament, medieval market and a chance to meet the king!
Heartbreak Productions are a prestigious travelling theatre company who blend passionate acting, music and dance with fun, humour and audience interaction to create innovative and atmospheric productions. Operating for over 20 years, they visit over 100 unique venues across the UK, bringing their performances to a diverse audience. This will be the seventh year that Heartbreak Productions bring their exceptional performances to Bosworth Battlefield.
Market Bosworth Festival is a registered charity and which aims to promote art, music and drama in and around the picturesque town. They involve the young and the old by bringing the arts into the town, providing workshops in local schools, organising art and craft exhibitions and offering young performers the opportunity to be seen and heard. As You Like It is part of the summer festival which runs from the 19th until the 30th of June offering live music, theatre productions and art exhibitions.
