Police are appealing for witnesses after a painting was stolen from a school in Sileby.

The incident happened between 8am on Saturday, June 20 and 8am Tuesday, June 23  at Highgate Primary School, in Heathcote Drive, Sileby.

Access was gained to the building and a painting was taken.

The picture is described as a leopard walking away from barcode, which is made to look like a cage. It is in a black frame and measures around 2’ by 2.5’.

PC Richard Spivey, who is investigating the incident said: “The school had an open fete on the Saturday and it is possible that while this was going on the painting was taken.

“We would like to speak to members of the public who saw anyone acting suspiciously at the time. Maybe you saw someone carrying a large object which could have been a painting?

“We would also like to hear from anyone who works in the second hand arts industry and has been offered a painting like this, or from anyone who knows someone who has recently acquired a piece of artwork which matches this description.”

Anyone with information is asked to call PC 1384 Richard Spivey on Leicester (0116) 222 2222 and follow the instructions to leave a message for an officer. When prompted key in his identification number 1384. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous, on 0800 555 111.
