Incident on M1 brought to successful conclusion
Police in Leicestershire closed the north and southbound carriageway of the M1 and a section of the A47 last night (Thursday 24th June 2009), after a man threatened to jump from the bridge.
Police were called to the scene at 8.33pm to find a 27 year old man from Leicester standing on the wrong side of the barrier threatening to jump. The ambulance and fire service also attended the scene and road closures and diversions were put in place.
An hour later, at 9.28pm, police officers persuaded the man to come down from the bridge and he was detained for his own safety. Officers would like to thank residents and motorists for their patience while they dealt with the situation.
