26 June 2009Half price weekend at Bosworth battlefield to mark double celebration!

Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre and Country Park is offering half price entry on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th July, to mark the anniversary of Richard IIIs crowning and to celebrate the sites success at the Museums and Heritage Awards.

Richard III, who lost his life and crown at the Battle of Bosworth, 1485, was crowned King of England on July 6th 1483.

Half price entry will be available to the award-winning, interactive exhibition, where visitors can step back in time to re-live the drama and excitement of battle, try on armour and test their skills as an archer on the interactive longbow. Then travel through the Tudor Dynasty before arriving in a modern day research laboratory BFI, Bosworth Field Investigations. Here visitors can try their hand at battlefield archaeology, with the chance to see rare finds uncovered by Bosworths metal detecting team, and discover what can be deduced from the bones of a 500 year old skeleton.

The half price entry applies to exhibition tickets only, making entry to the exhibition 3 for adults, 2 concessions and 1.50 for children (3 years and above). Families can make further savings with half price tickets costing just 5 (1 adult and 2 children), 7.50 (2 adult and 2 children) and 8.50 (2 adult and 3 children). Parking is just 1.50, making this a great value day out for all the family, for under 10.

Ernie White, Leicestershire County Councils Cabinet Member for Better Places, said: Bosworth is one of the UKs premier heritage attractions and beat a shortlist of six national museums, galleries and heritage attractions to win the Classic Award. We hope this half price weekend will encourage people to visit this fantastic site and soak up the history and heritage thats on our doorstep.
