Appeal following incident in Highfields
Police are appealing for witnesses following the report of a sexual assault on a 79-year-old woman in Highfields.
The incident happened between 2.30pm and 3pm on Monday June 29, when the victim was approached by a man who touched her inappropriately on Upper Tichborne Street as she walked towards Hamilton Street.
After, the victim told the man that she would inform the police and the man ran off into Warrington Court.
The man is described as Asian, around 50-years-old, of a medium build of a clean shaven appearance and had short red hair that was combed backwards.
PC Sophie MacMahon, the officer investigating the incident, said: This incident has left the victim feeling upset and scared to leave her house and we are hoping that by releasing this appeal someone will come forward with vital information.
Can you remember seeing someone matching the description in the area? Perhaps you too have been assaulted in the same area by a man similar to that described? Did you see the assault happen?
Any information you have we want to hear, in the hope that we will find the man responsible.
Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to contact PC 4587 Sophie MacMahon on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officer's identification number 4587. Alternatively call Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous on 0800 555 111.
*Some mobile phone networks may charge for this call.
