Officers are appealing for witnesses after a theft from a car parked at a country park in Syston.

The incident took place between 7pm and 10.30pm on Monday June 29, 2009 when the thieves stole property from a green Nissan Almera parked in the car park at Watermead Country Park.

Stolen from the vehicle was a handbag containing a mobile phone, paperwork, cash and several pieces of 21 carat gold wedding jewellery.

The victim is offering a reward for information which may that lead to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible and the return of the stolen property.

PC Kevin Gray, who is investigating this incident, said: “The victim has been left extremely distressed by the theft especially the jewellery being taken.

“We would ask anyone who was in the park between these times maybe jogging or walking your dog to think back. Did you witness the incident or maybe saw someone acting suspiciously in the car park?

"We cannot stress enough the importance of removing any valuables from vehicles when left unattended. It only takes a few seconds for thieves to smash a window and run off with your possessions. If you can, take them with you or lock them securely in the boot of your car and don't leave it in your glove box as it is the first place thieves will look.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC 1124 Kevin Gray on 0116 2222222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officer's identification number 1124. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous on 0800 555 111.
