Loughborough Ready to Bloom!
Posted on 08/07/09
Loughborough is getting ready to show that its blooming marvellous when the East Midlands in Bloom Judges come to Town on Monday 13th July.
This will be the culmination of months of hard work by the Bloom team, partners and members of the community. There have also been a number of donations made by generous local businesses.
The judges will be going on a tour of the town which will include stopping off at the Crematorium, University Campus, Outwoods, Stonebow Meadows, All Saints Church, John Storer House, Queens Park and the Rushes.
East Midlands in Bloom isnt just about flowers, its about creating a sustainable environment and this years entry has included a Childrens Garden and Mural in Queens Park and a Childrens Project in Shelthorpe that has led to a sustainable green learning environment where children can grow and learn about vegetables, fruit and herbs.
The Mountfields Allotments User group and Charnwood Borough Council have formed a successful partnership to improve the allotments site which included setting up a composting area. This area is managed by The Gardening Project from John Storer House.
A lot of work has also gone into redeveloping and planting along roads throughout the town, with floral displays on roundabouts and hanging baskets on lampposts, shop fronts, public buildings and the Emmanuel Churchyard.
Cllr Peter Lewis said: "I really hope people's enthusiasm, dedication and community pride over these past months will help us achieve public recognition that here we love our trees and flowers, our gardens and public places. However, the real reward grows around us every day. The pleasure and fun we've all had in coming together has grown out of our aspiration to make Loughborough an even better place. We must and will uphold that ambition, not just for the judges on a week in July, but for the rest of this year, next year and beyond.
