Police appeal following theft at library
Officers in Melton are appealing for witnesses after the report of a theft from a local library.
The incident happened between 3pm and 3.30pm on Tuesday July 7, when a member of staff at Melton Mowbray Library noticed a reel of Microfiche film was missing.
The film holds historical information from the Melton Recorder in the 1800’s.
PC Richard Spivey, the officer investigating the incident, said: “Members of staff at the library have been left very upset after the theft and are eager to get the item back.
“A young man asked to view the film on the same day of the disappearance and we are appealing to him to come forward in the hope that he will have some information that could help with our investigation.
“As the item is quite distinctive we are hoping that anyone who has sight of it or is aware of anyone who has it will contact us straight the way. Any information you have on it, or those responsible, we would like to speak with them.
Anyone with information is asked to contact PC 1384 Richard Spivey on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officer's identification number 1384. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous on 0800 555 111.
