police, constabulary, leicestershire police Re-appeal following theft of painting from school

Officers are re-appealing for information after a painting by graffiti artist Banksy was stolen from a school in Sileby.

The incident happened between 8am on Saturday, June 20 and 8am Tuesday, June 23 at Highgate Primary School, in Heathcote Drive, Sileby.

Access was gained to the building and a painting was taken.

The limited edition picture is described as a leopard walking away from barcode, which is made to look like a cage. It is in a black frame and measures around 2’ by 2.5’.

PC Richard Spivey, who is investigating the incident said: “Despite our last appeal at the end of last month, we are still hoping to catch those responsible for this crime and return the painting back to the school.

“The school had an open fete on the Saturday and it is possible that while this was going on the painting was taken.

“We believe that there is someone who has information on the whereabouts of the painting and who is responsible and we are appealing to those people to help us with our investigation.

“We also believe that there is a chance that someone who works in the second hand arts industry has been offered the painting, or that there is someone who knows of a person who has recently acquired a piece of artwork which matches this description.

“Any information you have could help us and we want to hear from you.”
