Seven arrested during drugs raids in Leicester
Seven people were arrested following a series of drugs raids by police in Leicester.
Warrants, issued under the Misuse of Drugs Act, were executed at 11 addresses on Tuesday July 7 and Wednesday July 8 lead by officers from the City’s Targeting Team supported by officers from neighbourhood action teams, the Tactical Support Group and Dog Unit.
The early morning raids were carried out at addresses in Winton Avenue, Nutfield Road, Arden Avenue, Golf Course Lane, Caldecote Road, Yeoman Street, Lothair Road, Rivers Street and Station Road in Leicester and Robinia Close in Lutterworth.
In total, five men and two women were arrested on suspicion of a number of drug related offences, as well as robbery, theft of motor vehicles and burglary.
A 40-year-old man from Winton Avenue in Leicester has since been charged with 14 offences which include being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs, possession with intent to supply Class A drugs, three counts of offering to supply Class A drugs, eight counts of supplying Class A drugs and possession of a firearm.
A 35-year-old man from Nutfield Road in Leicester has been charged with four offences including two counts of being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs, cultivating Cannabis and the supply of Class A drugs.
Both men were due to appear at Leicester Magistrates Court today (Thursday July 8).
Three men aged 35, 20 and 19 and two women aged 20 and 19 have been released on police bail while investigations continue.
Three vehicles, a motorbike, quantities of Class A and Class B drugs and large quantities of cash were also seized by officers during the raids.
Detective Inspector Tony Yarwood from the City’s Targeting Team said: “This was a large operation which followed a targeted phase of evidence gathering aimed at disrupting criminals concerned in supplying drugs within the city.
“I hope residents in Leicester are reassured that we are listening to their concerns about drugs misuse, crime and anti-social behaviour and we are acting on the information we receive.
“I hope this also sends a clear message to those involved in criminality and anti-social behaviour that we are targeting them.
“I encourage members of the community to continue to share information with us to help us target these individuals and problems.”
