Oadby cycle scheme finished
Posted on 10/07/2009
Highways, Transportation & Waste Management
A £130,000 scheme to assist cyclists and pedestrians travelling to Oadby is now complete.
The work includes new toucan crossings at B582 Wigston Road/Brabazon Road junction. Toucan crossings are so called because ‘two can cross’ (i.e. cyclists and pedestrians).
A combination of on and off road cycleways have been installed along the B582 Wigston Road and Rosemead Drive.
The Leicestershire County Council scheme links with an existing cycle route on the B582 Oadby Road/Wigston Road connecting Wigston and Oadby.
Mrs Lesley Pendleton, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transportation at the County Council, said:, “These improvements will help people walking to and from Oadby town centre and provide links with Parklands Leisure Centre and Brocks Hill Country Park, as well as schools and shops in the area.
“We hope that people will be encouraged to leave their car at home and give walking or cycling a go.”
The scheme has been part funded by Sustrans, the sustainable transport charity.
