Police are appealing for witnesses following an assault in Melton town centre.

The incident happened at about 4.30pm on Friday July 10, 2009 when the victim, a man in his 20’s, waiting at a bus stop in the town centre, was approached by a group of two or three men, who assaulted him.

The victim received cuts and bruises and was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham for treatment.

Detective Constable Emmy Thresh, who is investigating the incident, said: “The victim was left extremely shaken up following the assault and cannot remember much about the incident or exactly where it happened.

“He remembers waiting for a bus in the town centre at about 4.30pm last Friday and that a group of men aged in their 20’s approached him. Melton town centre would’ve been very busy at this time in the afternoon and I would appeal to anybody who witnessed the incident to contact me.

“Did you see a group of men attacking another man near to a bus stop in the town centre? Did you see a group of men running away from the area? If so, then please get in touch.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact DC 4142 Emmy Thresh on 0116 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officers identification number 4142. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous on 0800 555 111.
