New Way of Recycling - 1 August

Posted on 14/07/09

Charnwood Borough Council will be making recycling easier as a result of listening to the people of Charnwood.

From Saturday 1 August anyone who lives in Charnwood will be able to use just one recycling bag instead of the current green and red bags.

In August 2008, the Council conducted a consultation exercise on how to improve the service. A high priority for local residents was to make the service simpler. This move to a single coloured sack is a direct response to that call and follows detailed negotiations with Contractors that sort the material.

Currently Charnwoods recycling rate is exceptionally good at 41.8%. It is hoped that with the ease of this new recycling scheme the rate will increase even further.

Cllr. Hilary Fryer, Charnwood Borough Councils Lead Member for Environment, said: This is a fantastic initiative that will make it simpler for people to recycle even more. There will be no need to separate your metals and plastics from your paper and your card just put it all in one bag.

Recycling benefits everyone and because of this new initiative there really will be no excuse for anyone not to do their bit.

The new bags will be purple and will be delivered to every household in Charnwood over the next six months. The remaining green and red bags can be used for recycling until they run out but you no longer have to separate the materials.

A leaflet providing information and explaining the changes will also be delivered to every household in Charnwood over the next couple of weeks. Also look out for Charnwood Borough Councils recycling stands providing more information at Loughborough Market on Thursday 30 July and Saturday 1 August. A leaflet explaining the changes is also available on the recycling page of Charnwood Borough Councils website which you can visit at http://www.charnwood.gov.uk/pages/recycling
