Appeal following robbery on Humberstone Park
Police are appealing for witnesses following the report of a robbery in Humberstone Park, Leicester.
The incident happened at around 9.30pm on Saturday July 4, when the victim and his friend, both 12-years-old, were approached by a group of around 50 youths as they were leaving the park.
One of the youths asked the victim for the time. As the victim looked at his phone to check the time, the suspect grabbed it from his hand and ran away across the park towards Rowletts Hill.
The victim’s friend was also searched by a number of the youths, but he had no property on him.
The victim and his friend then left ran away from the group, leaving the park. As they ran through away the victim was hit in the face.
The victim did not receive any treatment to his injuries.
The phone stolen was a Sony Ericsson W550I.
Detective Constable Tony Harman, the officer investigating the incident, said: “We believe that anyone who was in the area would remember seeing such a large group of youths and so hope that they will contact us with any information they have on the people involved.
“If you can remember seeing the incident or know any of those that were part of the group then we want to hear from you. Any information you have, no matter how insignificant it may seem, we want you to call.”
