Distraction burglary in Evington
Police are appealing for witnesses after a 95-year-old woman was the victim of a distraction burglary in Evington.
The incident happened between 9.15am and 9.30am on Sunday July 15, when the victim answered her door, in the Evington Road area near to The Common, to a man who claimed to be from the water board.
The man walked straight into the property when the victim opened the door and put on the taps in her kitchen.
The man then pushed past the victim and left the property through the front door. When the victim followed him out of the kitchen she saw another man, who she had not let in the property, in her living room. This man then also pushed past the victim and left through the front door.
Following their exit the victim checked her living room and found that a quantity of cash had been stolen from her handbag along with some cigarettes.
Both men are described as white, aged in their twenties and were taller than 5ft. They were both of a slim build and were wearing dark clothing.
PC Ruth Hallam, the officer investigating the incident, said: “The victim has been left very upset and shaken as a result of the burglary and we want anyone with information on those responsible to contact us.
“If you were in the area at the time of the incident and can remember seeing two men matching the description then we want to hear from you. You may know the two men? Perhaps you saw where they went to after the incident or know where they came from? Any information, no matter how small, we want to know.”
Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC 4641 Ruth Hallam on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for an officer and when prompted key in his identification number 4641. Alternatively, people can call Crimestoppers free* and anonymously on 0800 555 111.
