Two boys arrested following incident in Measham
Two boys, aged 12 and 14, have been arrested in connection with an incident concerning anti-social behaviour on the High Street in Measham.
The incident happened on Wednesday 15th July 2009 but wasn’t reported to the police until the next day – Thursday 16th July when it’s alleged a 69 year old man was the victim of verbal abuse outside the store.
Anti-social behaviour outside Tesco’s on the High Street is a neighbourhood beat priority and, as a result, extra patrols are in place around that area. The beat team make daily visits and are working with North West Leicestershire District Council and Leicestershire County Council’s IMPACT team to tackle problems associated with young people gathering outside the store.
PC Stuart Davis, the neighbourhood beat officer, said; “We know the victim in this case is in hospital and our thoughts are with him and his family. We are aware of the issues of young people gathering outside Tescos in Measham and do take them very seriously. We regularly patrol the area, talk to the young people and ask them move away if we think they are being a nuisance.
“We have worked with the council and sent warning letters home to the parents of those whose behaviour causes us concern and we are in the process of issuing six Acceptable Behaviour Contracts.
“We met recently with local councillors to update them on the work we are doing and we hold regular beat surgeries in the village for local residents to discuss any concerns.
“Councillor Trevor Pendleton, Community Champion for North West Leicestershire District Council, said: “Anti-social behaviour in Measham is high on the agenda for the North West Leicestershire Partnership In Safer Communities' Joint Action Group (JAG). The JAG is made up of a team of key services including the Leicestershire Constabulary, North West Leicestershire District Council, the Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service, Youth Offending Team and Youth Services. The team are working on an action plan that will involve enforcement, education and prevention strategies to target the area and combat the issue."
The next beat surgery in Measham is at 9am on Thursday 23rd July 2009 in the car park of Measham Leisure Centre, off the High Street.
