New roundabout layout to cut accidents

A new layout at the Quarry Roundabout on the A50 Leicester Road near Markfield has now been completed by Leicestershire County Council.

The changes include reducing the width of lanes around the roundabout and making alterations to itsthe approaches by introducing hatching – road markings to narrow the carriageway - and reducing the number of lanes.

Motorists will also see a new sign on the southbound approach from Markfield towards Leicester, warning of adverse camber.

The County Council introduced the new layout costing £3,000 following several incidents which had occurred at the roundabout, in particular, lorries overturning.

Mrs Lesley Pendleton, Leicestershire County Council Lead Member for Highways and Transportation, said:, “It is one of the main objectives of the County Council to provide a safer road environment in order to try and reduce the number of accidents that occur on our roads. “
