Road safety measures for the Richmond Road area

New safety features around Richmond Road and Tudor Road, Hinckley, have been installed as part of the County Council’s bid to improve conditions for pedestrians in the area.

The road and path improvements, costing £108,000, include parking lay-bys and new pedestrian crossing points on Tudor Road and Richmond Road, some of which have been placed near the entrance to Richmond Park.

Concerns about safety for pedestrians were identified by local residents. Richmond Primary School also highlighted the need for additional road safety measures on its school routes in its Travel Plan.

Lesley Pendleton, Leicestershire County Council Cabinet Lead Member for Highways and Transportation, said: “This scheme was developed to make the roads and pavements better and safer for the local community including the large number of children walking to Richmond Primary School.

“We want to encourage people to walk more - it is healthy and more environmentally friendly than using the car.”

“The residents of the Richmond Road area have worked tirelessly with the County Council to make sure these new pedestrian road safety facilities meet the needs of the community. I am delighted that their efforts have resulted in this much needed scheme.”
