Bid to modernise residential care for young people
Posted on 21/07/2009
Cabinet Office
Creating more modern support for young people is behind a proposal to close a Coalville’s children’s home.
Changes in care mean that the number of young people living in a six-bedded home on London Road has gradually reduced.
Over time, the need for residential care has declined as more children are placed with foster families or are being supported earlier to prevent them coming into the care system.
Young people would not be affected by this change and support would continue for those who are in care and require residential provision.
Services would also be provided for vulnerable young people to enable them to live in their communities.
No redundancies are planned at this stage and it is anticipated that all staff would be relocated.
Ivan Ould, Cabinet Member for the Children and Young People’s Service, said: “We are always looking at ways to modernise services and these are positive plans which will allow us to improve, help and support children and their families earlier.”
The Cabinet will meet next Tuesday (28 July).
