Asb Roadshow to Tour Borough
Posted on 23/07/09
A SERIES of roadshows aimed at tackling anti-social behaviour and improving community safety are to take place across Charnwood.
The Charnwood Community Safety Partnership will be visiting 17 different locations in the Borough during July and August as part of the Safer Summer campaign, which is designed to tackle the increase in graffiti, vandalism, criminal damage and underage drinking which can occur during the school holidays.
Residents will get the chance to voice any concerns to representatives from Charnwood Borough Council, the Police, Charnwood Neighbourhood Housing (CNH), local Councillors plus other support agencies.
Information on how to report anti-social behaviour, how local agencies will respond to complaints and how residents will be supported to take a stand in their local communities to tackle issues concerning them will all be available at the roadshows.
There will also be details on local projects and initiatives which help to discourage anti-social behaviour and crime.
Cllr David Snartt, the chair of the Charnwood Community Safety Partnership said: Reducing anti-social behaviour is one of the top priorities for the partnership and working with local communities is an essential part in tackling this problem.
I believe local agencies will not succeed in reducing anti-social behaviour to acceptable levels without the co-operation of local residents reporting issues as they occur within their neighbourhoods.
Therefore good communication and reporting links are paramount. In return residents need to have the confidence that agencies will act on the information they supply, which in turn, will help to make a difference within their community.
During the summer months we do see a rise in anti-social behaviour incidents. Therefore I believe this is a good time for agencies and local residents to come together to make sure we do everything possible to reduce this issue, which causes so much distress within local communities.
Inspector Tim McCabe, Commander of Loughborough Local Policing Unit, said; These roadshows are a great opportunity to talk directly to the agencies which work together to tackle the problems associated with anti-social behaviour.
It is only by working together that we can make a difference in this area and the roadshows are part of a Safer Summer campaign involving a wide range of initiatives and events aimed at encouraging young people to think about their behaviour during the school holidays and letting residents know that we take their issues seriously and are working hard to tackle them.
Isobel Rickard, Charnwood Neighbourhood Housings Head of Housing Services added: Restoring public confidence in addressing anti-social behaviour is no easy task.
A strong partnership between the Council, CNH and the police is vital if we are to tackle crime, disorder and nuisance on the properties that we manage.
For that reason CNH are pleased to be involved in this initiative
The first five roadshows are taking place at:
- Hunters Moon Car Park, Shelthorpe, on Saturday, July 25th between 11am and 2pm
- Loughborough Market Place on Tuesday, August 4th, between 10am, and 3pm
- The Hut, Ashby Road Estate, on Wednesday, August 5th between 11am and 3pm
- Tesco Car Park, Sileby, on Thursday, August 6th between 11am and 3pm
- Lewis Road Car Park, Warwick Way, Loughborough, on Friday, August 7th between 11am and 3pm.
