Distraction burglary in Melton
Officers in Melton are appealing for witnesses following the report of a distraction burglary in the Dorothy Avenue area.
The incident happened at around 11.30am on Monday July 20, when two men approached the victim at her home and offered to remove the scrap metal from her front garden for £2.
The victim was followed by one of the men into the property as she got him the money.
The two men then left with the scrap metal in the direction of Brightside Avenue.
Feeling suspicious of the men, the woman returned to her property and checked to see if anything was missing. She found that her gold ring, which has three lions engraved on it, had been stolen.
One of the men is described as white, around 5’4” tall, about 40 to 45-years-old and of a stocky build. He had an unshaven and scruffy appearance. The man spoke in broken English.
The second man is described as white, aged between 25 to 30-years-old and was again of a scruffy appearance.
PC Sam Stevens, the officer investigating the incident, said: “The victim is very eager to have her property returned and we would like anyone with information about the incident to contact us.
“The two men were seen approaching the victim’s property from Asfordby Road so it may be that people in that area remember seeing these two men”
“It may be that you too have been approached by the men, perhaps you recognise the men from our description? Did you see the two men after the incident? Any information you have, no matter how insignificant it seems, we want you to call.”
Anybody with any information is asked to contact PC 4411 Sam Stevens on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officer's identification number 4411. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous on 0800 555 111.
