Summer Activities at Charnwood Museum
Posted on 23/07/2009
Community Services
Come to Charnwood Museum this summer and take part in our holiday workshops. We have an exciting range of activities to participate in, from arts and crafts to handling live animals, and a special potions class!
Children’s arts and crafts holiday activities run on several days a week until the 1st September. Why not try turning yourself into a terrific sea turtle, create a simple string puppet or decorate your own 'fossil' seashell to name but a few of the activities on offer. Suitable for ages 3-12, places cost £2 per child and must be booked and paid for in advance. Sessions last for 1 hour.
Spaces are still available on our popular animal handling sessions. Jungle Giants visit on 5th and 26th August. Mega Beasts, which include a Carpet Python, King Snake, Leopard Gecko and Horned Frog, will be appearing on the 12th August. Suitable for ages 3-12, places cost £2 per person. Sessions last for 45mins.
A special "Spells and Potions" class is also available on the 29th July, with things that go whizz, bang and pop! For ages 6 and above only, places cost £3 per person. Classes last for 1 hour.
Children must be accompanied by an adult on all of our summer workshops and places must be booked and paid for in advance.
Two exhibitions accompany the workshops, "A Bit of a Dive" is an exhibition of colourful images of sea life by internationally acclaimed underwater photographer Mark Webster. "High Days and Holidays", an exhibition from the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu, is a light hearted look at leisure and motoring, which also contains some fun inter-actives for younger children.
Charnwood Museum is in Queens Park in the centre of Loughborough and is open from 10am to 4.30pm Monday to Saturday. Sunday opening hours are 2pm-5pm. Entrance to the museum is free.
Charnwood Museum is run as a partnership between Leicestershire County Council and Charnwood Borough Council.
