Police are appealing for witnesses following the report of an assault in Leicester city centre.

The incident happened at around 1.50am on Saturday July 18, when the 42-year-old victim was approached by a man outside a premises on Hotel Street.

The victim was then hit by the man and he fell to the floor.

The victim received injuries to his head as a result of the assault and was taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary by the ambulance service. He has since been discharged.

The man left the scene after the assault.            

A 34-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the assault and has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

PC Lizzie Evenden, the officer investigating the incident, said: “The victim received some nasty injuries as a result of this assault and we are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed it to come forward.

“We are hoping that people will see this and come forward with information that will help us piece together the events leading up to the incident.

“If you witnessed the incident and have information on those involved then we want to hear from you, no matter how insignificant it may seem.”
