Warning after car key burglaries in Hinckley and Bosworth
Police are warning residents in Hinckley and Bosworth to keep their car keys safe after a number of cars were stolen from the area.
In the past two weeks four houses in Markfield, Market Bosworth and Newbold Verdon have been broken into and car keys and cars have been stolen.
Cars taken in the incidents include a black Volkswagon Golf, a white Ford Fiesta Zetec, a silver Jaguar XF, a blue fiat Punto and a black Audi A4.
Sergeant Stef Preston, from Hinckley and Bosworth local policing unit, said: “While four burglaries might not seem like a lot, it’s certainly four too many as far as we’re concerned. We want to try and avoid other people being victims to this kind of crime which is why we’re sending out a warning – not just to residents in Hinckley and Bosworth but to people across Leicestershire.
“It’s always a good idea to keep your keys somewhere safe, secure and out of sight and in particular, well away from windows, doors and letterboxes. Also, try not to put them anywhere obvious, such as the top draw in the kitchen.
“And, if you are aware of someone who has acquired any of the above cars in suspicious circumstances the please call us, the information you have could help us with our investigation.”
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Sgt 850 Stef Preston from Hinckley and Bosworth LPU on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for an officer and when prompted key in his identification number 0850. Alternatively, people can call Crimestoppers free* and anonymously on 0800 555 111.
