Distraction burglary in Rutland
Officers in Rutland are appealing for witnesses following the report of a distraction burglary in the Spring Back Way area of Uppingham.
The incident happened at around 4pm on Friday July 24, when the 90-year-old victim answered her door to two men who claimed to be from the water board.
One of the men asked the victim to turn on her taps as there was a problem with the pipes. He then left the property.
Later on that evening the victim went to an upstairs room in her house and found that money had been taken.
The man who entered the victims house is described as white, aged between 45 to 55-years-old, between 55 and 58 tall and was of a medium build. He was clean shaven with dark hair and was wearing a brown suit. He spoke with an Irish accent.
The second man who was stood at the door is described as white, aged between 20 to 25-years-old, between 55 and 58 tall and of a medium build. He also had short dark hair but was wearing casual clothes.
Detective Constable Lee Fowler, the officer investigating the incident, said: The incident has left the victim feeling upset and distressed and we want anyone who has any information about what happened to contact us.
If you were in the area and can remember seeing two men matching the description, or have also been approached by the men yourself, then we urge you to contact us.
I would like to remind people that the water board does not exist, so if you are approached by someone claiming to be from the water board dont let them in If they are a genuine caller then they will have no problem with you asking them to arrange an appointment at a later date when you have someone with you.
