Topping Out Ceremony at New Leisure Centre
Posted on 28/07/09
A MULTI-MILLION pound project to turn South Charnwood Swimming Pool into a Leisure Centre for people of all ages is entering its final stage of development.
Officials from Charnwood Borough Council and contractors G F Tomlinson will attend a topping out ceremony on Wednesday (July 29th) to formally mark the completion of the extension to the building.
Internal work is now underway and the 3.1m project is still running to cost and is expected to open ahead of schedule early September.
A new gym and dance studio featuring the very latest equipment as well as new changing rooms and additional car parking spaces are being constructed as part of the scheme.
Cllr Peter Lewis, Charnwood Borough Councils Cabinet member for Leisure and Culture, said: This is incredibly exciting news watching this great building evolve into something the entire community can enjoy and be proud of.
I cant wait to see it open and celebrate more good news for everyone in these nationally worrying and grim times. Well done, our team!
Barry Sewards, the Chairman of G F Tomlinson, added: It is always very rewarding to be involved in a project for the benefit of all the public.
The fulfilment of constructing the project is only outweighed by the facilities it provides to everyone. We wish to thank Charnwood Borough Council for the opportunity to construct the facility.
A temporary office is now open on the school playing fields in front of South Charnwood Leisure Centre for people to enquire about membership opportunities for the gym and pool.
There are some great deals on offer and further details can be obtained by calling into the office between 12pm and 8pm Monday to Friday and 10am to 2pm on Saturdays.
Alternatively, call (0116) 264 0057 and speak to Kevin Stanley or Helen Bird.
Further details about the work taking place at South Charnwood Swimming Pool, and other leisure facilities in the Borough, are available by logging on to www.charnwood.gov.uk/pages/leisure.
