3CAP fits all!
Posted on 29/07/2009
Highways, Transportation & Waste Management
Leicestershire County Council is forging closer links with highways authorities in other councils across the East Midlands.
The move has been made in a bid to save money through joint working.
Leicestershire is already part of an alliance with Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire County Councils and private business sector partner, Scott Wilson - this is known as the 3 Counties Alliance Partnership (3CAP).
The joint venture looks at ways in which highways authorities can work together to save money and duplication.
3CAP is presently looking at setting up a standard set of specifications and drawings to be used in designing roads. This can range from the height of a kerb to the width of a road.
There are currently 1,610 standard drawings and specifications used across the three counties and this will be reduced to around 450.
Lesley Pendleton, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transportation, said: “The council is always looking for ways to work with other partners – private and public, if it can save time, resources and collateral.
“The 3CAP highways partnership has been in place for just over two years and in the time, nearly ?1 million so far has been identified as savings across the three councils, for the four year contract.
“The work of the 3CAP Alliance is seen as pioneering in the industry - It has already won several awards and commendations and in Leicestershire. We are very proud to be one of the local authorities leading the way.”
This specification project, which also involves Staffordshire County Council, is intended to be rolled out to a further 10 highways authorities around the Midlands area in the near future.
