National transport awards for County Council

Leicestershire County Council’s Highways and Transportation department has receieved a prestigious commendation at a national award ceremony In London.

The department was ‘Highly Commended’ in the ‘Transport Local Authority of the Year’ category at the National Transport Awards.

Matthew Lugg, director of Highways and Transportation at the County Council, also picked up an award for his ‘Outstanding Contribution to Local Transport’.

Alongside his role at the County Council, Matthew is also chair of the UK Roads Board, second vice-president of County Surveyors Society and chair of the County Surveyors Society Engineering Committee.

Lesley Pendleton, Cabinet Lead Member for Transportation at the County Council, attended the event. Afterwards, she said: We are absolutely delighted with these achievements. The National Transport Awards are one of the top award ceremonies in the industry and the ‘Transport Local Authority of the Year’ is certainly the most prestigious award category.

I am also very pleased that the Highways and Transportation department has such an influential leader in Matthew. The fact that it has received this commendation proves that Matthew’s drive, leadership, passion and presence emanates throughout the department.”

This year’s National Transport Awards were held on July 22nd at the Grosvenor House Hotel.
