Leicestershire Constabulary is offering advice ahead of the Caribbean Carnival in Leicester this weekend to ensure everyone has a safe and crime-free time.

Thousands of people are expected to join in the Carnival on Saturday (August 1). To help keep them safe, police have been working closely with the event organisers and other agencies involved.

Superintendent Mick Gamble said: “The Caribbean Carnival is a popular annual event which attracts thousands of people of all ages to the city centre.

“Our policing plan doesn't just cover Victoria Park, but will run right across the city. We want everyone to enjoy themselves and we have been working closely with everyone involved in the Carnival to do all we can to ensure it passes safely.

“I encourage anyone visiting the Carnival to consider some simple measures which they can take to reduce the risk of them becoming a victim of crime.”

  • Don't bring your valuables or wear expensive jewellery
  • Keep your belongings with you at all times and keep bags securely fastened
  • Don't carry too much cash
  • If you have to use your mobile phone remain aware of your surroundings.  Try not to use in crowded areas or anywhere you feel unsafe.
