Boost your CV with volunteering scheme

A two-year scheme has been launched to encourage people to volunteer in museums, country parks and arts and heritage venues.

People can boost their CVs by working in the National Forest, on museum restoration schemes or as volunteer rangers – and learn the relevant skills, free of charge.

Leicestershire County Council has launched the scheme by employing Amanda Hanton as volunteer development officer for the North West of the county.

Amanda, former project manager for the Millennium Volunteers scheme ,will be developing the VIP programme, which stands for Volunteering, Internships and Placements.

Ernie White, Better Spaces spokesman on the County Council's Cabinet, said: "Free skills development and training will be provided, so it may appeal to people who are not currently in employment, but who have the time and desire to gain more experience and boost their CV.

"We also want to hear from people who are keen to get involved with their local community and have experiences that they are willing to share with others."

John Gant, vice-chair of Leicestershire Together, said: "There is huge scope for volunteers to gain new skills and to grow in confidence as their volunteering develops."
