Meet the Tudors at Donington le Heath Manor House

If you want to know what life was really like in Tudor times, warts and all, then a free event by the historical re-enactment group ‘Tempus Experentia’ will answer your questions.

‘Meet the Tudors’ will be held between 11am and 4pm on Saturday, August 8th and Sunday, August 9th at Leicestershire County Council’s Donington le Heath Manor House, when the manor house and grounds will come alive with folk from throughout the 16th century.

See how rich and poor lived under the reign of the Tudors. What did they eat and what did they wear? What did they fear and what did they cherish?

Meet Henry VII (not VIII!) and other Tudor characters from later in the dynasty and see how their costume changed through time, with replica clothing and accessories to see and handle.

An exciting (and hilarious!) puppet show in the traditional style will also be held here to entertain children and adults alike.

You can follow the exciting trial of a thief caught in the act for the second time. No more public warnings for this villain – the hangman awaits. (Hangings twice daily by appointment!)

Fancy a go at dancing Tudor style with Tudor musicians? Join in with the group at various times in the day.

Watch and talk to the Manor House’s Tudor ladies and gentleman, villains, thieves and assorted hangers-on, with their displays of authentic crafts, such as weaving and spinning.

You can also talk to re-enactors about their hobby and maybe join them.

The event ties in with Key Stage II of the National Curriculum.
