Robbery in South Wigston
Police are appealing for witnesses following the report of a robbery on Saffron Road in South Wigston.
The incident happened at around 1pm on Friday July 24, when the 66-year-old victim was approached by a man, near the roundabout with St Thomas Road, who attempted to take his bag.
When the victim would not let go of the bag the man hit him twice, causing him to fall to the floor and let go.
He then chased the suspect along Saffron Road, Kirkdale Road and Clifford Street where he lost him.
The bag is described as black and grey with the letters DLS written on it. Inside the bag was a quantity of cash.
The victim received a cut to his face but did not received treatment.
The suspect was wearing all dark clothing. He wore a black hooded top with the hood up and a skull on the front. The suspects face was covered and only his eyes could be seen.
PC Jess Card, the officer investigating the incident, said: “The victim managed to chase the suspect quite a distance but unfortunately lost him on Clifford Street.
We want anyone who was in the area of Saffron Road, Kirkdale Road and Clifford Street on Friday July 24 at around 1pm to think back. Can you remember seeing the incident? Did you see a youth matching the description after the incident? Do you know where he went to? Have you seen a discarded bag matching the description of the one stolen?
“The top the man was wearing was quite distinctive and so we are hoping this will help to identify him.
“Any information you have could help us with our investigation and so we want you to call.”
Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC 4624 Jess Card on 0116 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officers identification number 4624. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous on 0800 555 111.
