Top class results for Leicestershire's 11 year olds
Posted on 04/08/2009
New figures reveal that Leicestershire's 11-year-olds remain in the top third across the country.
Key stage two results published today show that county pupils still rank above the national average and continue previous years' successes.
They build on rises over the past nine years and compare very favourably with 'like authorities' - these are areas with a similar socio-economic profile to Leicestershire.
The number of pupils reaching the benchmark level four was 82% in English, 80% in maths and 89% in science. All three are better than the national average and maintain last year's high standards - a small dip in English matches a national trend.
A number of schools have indicated they are appealing against their results which could have an impact on the overall figures.
Ivan Ould, Cabinet Member for the Children and Young People's Service, said: "These are very good results and I'd like to send my congratulations to pupils, teachers and parents who have all worked extremely hard."
